Choosing the Best Water Purifier for Your Home
Frankly, I put up this site because I am concerned. The quality of our drinking and bathing water is absolutely abominable. And I’m willing to bet that, if you have found this site, you agree with me. This is an issue that I am passionate about, and I think I know what can be done to fix the problem.
Here’s the Problem as I see it:
We eat organic produce, shop at farmers markets, take supplements– but it’s all for nothing if we keep ingesting pesticides, insecticides, heavy metals, even antibiotics and tranquilizers through our drinking water. There are over 2,00 toxins in our water– we drink them, we bathe in them, we cook our children’s food in them. So it’s a good thing that we are finally waking up to the fact that the most important thing we can do for our health is to drink pure water.
Bottled Water is Not the Answer!
Don’t think that drinking bottled water solves the problem! Here is what the FDA has to say about bottled water: “Companies that market bottled water as being safer than tap water are defrauding the American public.” Bottled water can be ridiculously expensive; it’s packaged in an environmentally irresponsible way. And if that wasn’t enough, it often contains more junk than tap water. Why? Because there are no government standards regulating its purity.
Buyer Beware: Not All Solutions Are Created Equal!
You don’t need me to tell you that the water you use at home needs to support your health, not undermine it. Home Water filtration systems will do that.
But not just any system will work.
Reverse osmosis? The most expensive system I have come across is the reverse osmosis home water purification system. Not a good idea, as far as I can tell, because in addition to removing the contaminants, they also remove the natural minerals which our bodies need to function properly. This de-mineralized water does not happen in nature and our bodies do not know what to do with it! You can develop serious deficiencies over time!
The best advice I can give you: Make sure the system you get uses multi-filtration! (I found a system that I believe is good. I use it in my own home and I recommend it to anyone who asks me which of the many products out there work best.)
Multifiltration
Multi-stage filtration systems use absorption, ion exchange, and mechanical filtration to remove sediment, chemical pollutants, and heavy metals, while leaving intact the naturally occurring minerals which your body needs for optimum health.
They are easy to install and maintain and are very affordable. You can install whole house multifiltration units, as well as point-of-use units for individual faucets and for the shower.
Only multifiltration water purifiers use different filtration processes to make sure there are no impurities left in your water, but that the minerals you need to maintain your health are still there. Basically, they use a three-part process to remove contaminants: absorption, mechanical filtration and ion exchange.
This is what happens: Granular carbon filters and carbon block systems use adsorption, by which the contaminant bonds chemically or physically to the surface of the filter medium. Activated carbon is recognized by the U.S. EPA as the best available technology for filtering VOCs and THMs.
Multi-media block filters go even further. A blended media is compressed into a solid form with a sub-micron pore structure. This is how the sediment and cysts like Cryptosporidium and Giardia get filtered out.
My favorite home water filtration system is made by Aquasana. I first saw them in the Consumer Digest Magazine. I’m adamant about getting my money’s worth, and Consumer Digest voted them “Best Buy” five years in a row.
As a matter of fact, I liked it so much that I became an affiliate for the company that sells it. That means that if you click on one of the links in this blog and make a purchase I will make a commission.
Aquasana carries a few different products, so you won’t have a problem finding something that works for your budget and needs.

Their shower filters are very affordable and you really shouldn’t go without them. Your skin is your biggest organ. All the stuff that you are worried about drinking– well, you’ll be absorbing it thorugh your skin when you shower, especially so since your pores will be open wide because of the heat. Showering in pure water is really important if you suffer from dryness or any other skin condition.
As far as your drinking water goes, the most cost effective option is to get what they call a point of use filter: a water purifier that either installs under your sink, or fastens right on your faucet in two minutes flat– no tools required!. Either way, you get pure, healthy water to drink with no fuss.
Or you can choose the cadillac of walter filtration systems: the whole house filter. This water purifier will clean the water as it enters your home, so that you can have pure water everywhere to drink, shower in, even do your laundry in.
